A Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis has crashed and flipped while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada. Airport officials said on X that all 80 people on board the plane, operated by subsidiary Endeavor Air with a Bombardier CRJ900 , have been identified and evacuated. There are 76 passengers and four crew members.
The accident left 18 injured, three of whom, two adults and a child, in serious condition. There were no casualties. Television images showed the fuselage of the plane overturned on the runway.
The dynamics of the accident are being investigated
In the Canadian evening, Todd Aitken, fire chief at Toronto Pearson Airport, reported that visibility at the airport was limited at the time of the accident, but that the runway was clear and dry, and that there was no strong wind at the airport. The reasons for the aircraft's overturning remain unclear, and are the subject of an investigation by the Canadian Transportation Safety Authority.
Two airport runways to remain closed for investigation
Two runways at the international airport will remain closed, airport CEO Deborah Flint announced. The measure is to allow an investigation to be conducted "in the coming days," Flint said. Pearson International Airport has partially resumed operations after temporarily suspending departures and takeoffs following the incident.
