North Korea: "Denuclearization is an obsolete and absurd goal"

Pyongyang Foreign Minister: "As long as there is a hostile threat from the United States and its vassal forces, the DPRK's nuclear weapons will be a means of defending peace and sovereignty".

North Korea  "  firmly" rejects the " obsolete and absurd " demands for  denuclearization  by the heads of diplomacy of the  United States, Japan and South Korea , who in a meeting last week reiterated that  Pyongyang  should not possess atomic weapons.

In a statement reported by the KCNA agency, the North Korean Foreign Ministry reiterated instead its intention to strengthen the North  's nuclear capabilities in response to the "hostile threats" of its enemies, harshly criticizing the "adventurous and senseless acts of the three hostile countries  that incite confrontation and collective conflict" on the Korean peninsula and its surroundings.

"Denuclearization is a short-sighted goal"

North Korea's Foreign Ministry also called denuclearization a "short-sighted goal," noting that it was "nothing but the height of stupidity that arouses the astonishment of the people of the world" and that the United States has not yet awakened from the "old failed dream of denuclearization." "It is not worth considering countering the position of the United States that is running away from reality, and we condemn and reject the American action in the strongest terms."

Pyongyang vs. Washington

North Korea will "steadfastly adhere to the new line of building up its nuclear forces" and "fully deter the United States and its vassal forces from threats and blackmail" using all political and military tools at its disposal, the statement stressed, adding that "the United States is pursuing an outdated and absurd plan of denuclearization, which is now becoming increasingly impossible and impracticable even practically and conceptually from the perspective of the current moment."

"US, Japan and South Korea incite collective confrontation"

Pyongyang then attacked last week's trilateral talks between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Ministers Takeshi Iwaya of Japan and Cho Tae-yul of South Korea, who sent a "strong" warning against Pyongyang's "provocations." The North Korean ministry accused the three nations of "inciting collective confrontation" on the Korean Peninsula and in the region: any provocations and threats will be met with "overwhelming and decisive countermeasures."

"Nuclear weapons as a means to defend peace and sovereignty"

As long as "the hostile threat from the United States and its vassal forces exists, the DPRK's nuclear weapons will be a means of defending peace and sovereignty and a means of legitimate self-defense," the ministry noted. Pyongyang is waiting to understand the plans of Donald Trump's second administration toward the North after the failed dialogue during the tycoon's first term in the White House.
