At least 17 children have died in a fire at an Islamic school in northern Nigeria, sources told the BBC, adding that several other students were injured and rushed to health centres in the town of Kauran Namoda, in Zamfara state, for treatment. The fire is believed to have started on Tuesday evening in a nearby house and spread to the school while the children, believed to be teenagers, were sleeping. Local authorities and emergency workers were dispatched to the scene, but the blaze had already claimed several lives.
