Nepal bans solo expeditions to Everest and other "Eight-Thousanders"

Published on 6 February 2025 at 10:10

Nepal has banned solo expeditions to Everest and other peaks 8,000 metres and above. The amendment to the previous mountaineering law was published in the official gazette.

It will be mandatory to have one guide for every two climbers for altitudes above 8,000 metres, while for other mountains at least one guide per group will be sufficient.

The guide requirements are intended to create local jobs, increase safety and reduce casualties, by making it easier to locate missing people and provide rescue.
