A man has been arrested in the Netherlands after fatally stabbing an 11-year-old girl on a street in the city of Nieuwegein. "The girl was attacked and doctors were unable to save her life," police said. "In the immediate vicinity, a 29-year-old man was arrested based on information from passers-by and others," Utrecht regional police added. Authorities did not provide any information about the motive for the attack.
According to the ANP news agency, the suspect is from Syria and police are investigating reports that he acted in a "confused" manner in the week before the attack.
