Pennsylvania's governor says the small plane crashed in Northeast Philadelphia. The crash site is less than 3 miles from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, which primarily serves business jets and charter flights.
The plane crashed into a busy intersection near Roosevelt Mall, an outdoor shopping center with dozens of stores and restaurants in the residential neighborhood of Rhawnhurst. The plane, a small business jet, was en route to Springfield, Missouri . The plane that took off and quickly disappeared from radar was registered to a company operating as Med Jets, which are medical transport aircraft for the rapid transfer of patients. The little patient, according to a spokesperson for Jet Rescue, had been treated in Philadelphia for a serious illness and had to be brought home: the final destination, after the stopover in Missouri, was Tijuana.
