Melania Trump, the official photo as a power woman

Between The Apprentice and House of Cards, Melania Trump transforms herself into the new official black and white photo after Donald Trump's inauguration at the White House: Dolce and Gabbana trouser suit, the George Washington obelisk in the background, the First Lady has chosen a pose that exudes power and the desire to exercise it, the ferocious and icy gaze that promises revenge for her husband's enemies and for those who, since he entered politics, have poured poison on her and her family.

The image by Belgian photographer Régine Mahaux is a stark contrast to the 2017 color photograph in which the former Slovenian model, photographed by Mahaux herself, opted for a conventional smile and a pose with her arms crossed.

No jewels this time, while eight years ago Melania's ring finger flaunted a gigantic three million dollar diamond, a gift from her husband for their 10th wedding anniversary. For the official photo Melania chose the Yellow Room, which hosted the meetings between Roosevelt and Winston Churchill during the Second World War.

In the background, rigid, coldly austere and threatening, the Washington obelisk, a symbol of imperial power at the antipodes of Lady Liberty who welcomes emigrants arriving in the port of New York.

Melania had also opted for a Dolce and Gabbana in 2017, but the new corporate look is reflected in the First Lady's initiatives in recent weeks, from the documentary purchased by Amazon for 40 million dollars to the cryptocurrency $Melania (a meme coin) released immediately after her husband's $Trump, and to the new presence: Melania 2.0 accompanied Donald on visits to flood victims in North Carolina and to the victims of the Los Angeles fires, in stark contrast to the four years of semi-recluse at Trump Tower during her first term.

In a revisited business suit, a white shirt open at the neck, the 54-year-old third wife of Donald Trump was portrayed by Mahaux standing, with the tips of her fingers resting on a mirrored table: a pose that recalled those of Trump in The Apprentice, the reality talent show that revived her career in the 1990s. Also inevitable is the comparison with Claire Underwood, the ruthless and icy First Lady of the series House of Cards (who becomes the 47th US president after the mysterious death of her husband Frank): a woman "who stops at nothing to conquer everything", as the New York Times described her upon the release of the TV series.

Melania Trump has chosen a 'power pose' and a fierce, unsmiling look for the new official photo as First Lady of the White House. The image is a stark contrast to the 2017 one in which the former Slovenian model had opted to welcome her husband's first term with a shy half-smile and arms folded. Dressed in a dark business suit and a white shirt open at the neck, Donald Trump's 54-year-old third wife was portrayed with her fingers resting on a mirrored table, with the George Washington obelisk towering in the background.

The photo is in black and white. According to some media, the composition in the Yellow Room of the White House evokes the promotional images of The Apprentice, the reality talent show that revived Trump's fortune, and could be the sign of a great comeback for Melania, who recently signed a $40 million deal with Amazon for a documentary about her life.
