The family has always maintained that the man, at the time of his arrest, was in possession of a small quantity of narcotic substances.
In Egypt, the 25-year prison sentence for the Italian Luigi Giacomo Passeri has been confirmed . A 32-year-old from Pescara who has been living in London for years, the man was arrested in August 2023, while on vacation, for international drug trafficking . According to his family, he was in possession of small doses of drugs. A few months ago, the deputy group leader of the Green-Sinister Alliance in the Chamber, Marco Grimaldi, had asked for government intervention and presented a parliamentary question, denouncing that Luigi Giacomo Passeri had been tortured in prison .
The brother: "We can't take it anymore"
"Honestly, we can't take it anymore, honestly." This was stated to the LaPresse press agency by Antonio Marco Passeri, brother of Luigi Giacomo. The first-instance sentence was upheld on appeal, sentencing him to 25 years in prison for possession and trafficking of narcotics and because, according to the prosecution, he was part of a network for the illegal importation of drugs for sale on the Egyptian market. The closest relatives were apparently given the opportunity to speak to the boy, via videoconference from Egypt, next Sunday.
"For a year and a half that he's been in there - his brother added - every time I tell my brother that I want to go visit him he writes to me not to go because what happened to him could happen to me". After his arrest, in August 2023, Passeri would have been operated on for appendicitis and in recent months he began a hunger strike in protest.
