He has been parking his car, a silver Volkswagen Golf with Hanover license plates, in front of the terminal at Berlin Brandenburg Airport for over a year now. Vehicles are usually parked there only for short-term parking: the first ten minutes are free, a quarter of an hour costs five euros. An hour costs 23 euros, a day costs 552.
For this reason, the owner of the car would have to pay more than 200,000 euros for the accumulated parking spaces. In theory, because it is still unclear who owns the car, as is the question of who will now take care of the consequences.
Since the car was not on public roads, according to the police, the responsibility lies with Berlin Brandenburg Airport or the parking operator.
The story was reported by Der Spiegel , who confirmed to the airport that the car is still in the parking lot.
It is speculated that it may have been stolen. According to Bild , there is a jurisdictional issue in the matter. "The Hannover police see no need to take action," believing that "the responsibility lies with the Berlin police or the federal police."
When questioned by the Berliner Zeitung, the parking manager said he was aware of the case and was in contact with the parking owner and the competent authorities.
If the owner of the car can be identified, this does not mean that the 200,000 euro parking fee must be paid. According to the parking manager, this depends on the debtor's ability to raise the financial resources.
