The North's Missile Defense Administration conducted the test launch as "part of plans to build national defense capabilities to increase the effectiveness of strategic control against potential enemies," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said. Official reports said the missiles hit their targets "precisely" and the launch did not have any negative impact on the security of neighboring countries.

Overseeing the launch, Kim said that "the deterrent means of the DPRK armed forces are being further improved, and the DPRK will always make strenuous efforts in a responsible manner to carry out its important mission of defending sustainable and lasting peace and stability on the basis of a more developed military force in the future."
