In Pakistan, a court in the city of Rawalpindi has sentenced four people, all Muslims, to death on charges of blasphemy for insulting Islamic holy figures or the Quran on social media platforms.

The trial court also imposed prison terms and fines on the defendants. The court sentenced them to seven years in prison and imposed a separate fine of 100,000 rupees ($360) each. If they fail to pay, they will serve another seven years.

The defendants have the right to appeal the verdict, and the death penalty will not be carried out without confirmation from the High Court.
