Businessman and activist, Kimbal Musk sits on the board of Tesla and on social media describes himself as a chef, restaurateur, philanthropist and entrepreneur in the food sector. "For more than two decades - we read on his profile on the Tesla website - he has co-founded and invested in companies in the technology, hospitality, entertainment and agriculture sectors. His personal mission is to empower innovators and scale sustainable technologies that help contribute to a happier and healthier future". His distinctive feature is a  cowboy hat .

The younger brother of the more famous Elon Musk, Kimbal was born on September 20, 1972 in Pretoria, South Africa. He later moved to the United States to pursue his studies and entrepreneurial career. After collaborating with Elon in the early 2000s to create Zip2, one of the first online mapping platforms, Kimbal found his calling in the food industry. He is the co-founder of "The Kitchen Restaurant Group", a chain of restaurants based on the "farm to table" concept, which promotes the use of local and seasonal ingredients. This approach not only reduces the environmental impact, but also supports small producers and local economies.

Commitment to sustainability and education

One of the most notable aspects of Kimbal’s career is his commitment to making healthy food accessible to all. In 2011, he launched “Big Green,” a nonprofit organization that builds school gardens across the United States, with the goal of educating young people about the importance of healthy and sustainable eating. These spaces, called “Learning Gardens,” offer children the opportunity to learn how to grow, harvest, and cook their own food, thus developing a direct connection with food and nature.

Another of Kimbal’s innovative projects is “Square Roots,” a startup focused on vertical farming. The company uses recycled shipping containers to grow fresh vegetables in urban environments, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to reduce waste of resources, such as water and space. Square Roots has become a point of reference for those seeking innovative and scalable solutions to address global food security challenges.

The role in the boards of directors

In addition to his food ventures, Kimbal Musk serves on the boards of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, companies led by his brother Elon. He also previously served on the board of Chipotle Mexican Grill from 2013 to 2019.

Personal life

In 2018, Kimbal married Christiana Wyly, an environmental activist and daughter of former billionaire Sam Wyly. The couple resides in Boulder, Colorado, and shares an extended family of four children.
