Michelle Obama has already deserted Jimmy Carter's funeral - where, according to the ceremony, she was supposed to sit right next to the president-elect. against whom he never hid his distance.
Michelle Obama has decided that he will not even be present at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20.
To the official note announcing its absence, no explanations have been added to justify the gesture.
Her husband Barack Obama, as well as Bill and Hillary Clinton, confirmed their presence.
"Former President Barack Obama confirms his attendance at the 60th opening ceremony," the statement reads. He continues: "Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration."
Michelle Obama never hid the distance between her and Trump - who, by the way, supported Obama's "non-US" citizenship lie, and repeatedly uttered phrases and held sexist attitudes.
"For years, Trump has done everything in his power to try to make people afraid of us," Michelle Obama said during her speech at the Democratic National Convention in August. "His limited worldview has made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard-working, educated, successful people, but they happen to be black."
The former first lady's absence from Carter's funeral was attributed to previously set commitments, but the detail that Michelle Obama should have sat right next to Trump did not go unnoticed.
Michelle Obama is not the first first lady to avoid a presidential inauguration: neither Trump nor his wife Melania took part in the inauguration of President Biden in 2021. Trump has always falsely claimed that the result of that vote was distorted by fraud.
