An agreement with the United Arab Emirates and Albania for the production of renewable energy in Albania and interconnection with Italy: this morning in Abu Dhabi, at the 'world summit' on energy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, accompanied by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama (with him the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania) and Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the Emirates and President of Masdar, signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation "in the sector of renewable energy and energy infrastructure".
The governments of the three countries promote the construction in Albania of plants for the production of renewable energy, supply agreements are foreseen between Italian operators and Albanian producers. The energy produced from renewable sources in Albania will therefore also be transported to Italy.

Rama illustrated the agreement. The value of the investment is around one billion "it is an important agreement, it will bring more energy from Albania to Italy and also because a new European law on renewables will come into force in 2026. Albania is 100 percent with renewable energy, now we are diversifying with solar", he said, "I think the agreement will be operational in three years at the most, studies have been done, I believe it will connect the stretch between Vlora and Puglia".

The pact, according to what has been learned, has a five-year horizon. The governments, according to the same sources, will support the construction in Albania of plants for the production of up to 3 GW of renewable energy and the construction of an interconnector for the transmission of 1 GW between Albania and Italy. The agreement therefore defines the main areas of cooperation between the United Arab Emirates, Italy and Albania, including the development of gigawatt-scale renewable energy projects in Albania, "with particular attention to solar photovoltaics, wind power and hybrid solutions with battery storage potential", it is underlined in a joint statement.

"Personally, I am very proud of this agreement," said Prime Minister Meloni, who spoke at the 'World Summit', reiterating the need to reject an ideological approach o the transition and to find a balance between sustainability and innovation.

"Nuclear fusion can produce clean, safe and unlimited energy and transform energy from a geopolitical weapon to an accessible resource that can change history. Italy is playing its role in this direction", said the Prime Minister who, before taking a tour of the stands, met with the President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed. Also present at the 'world summit' was Enel with its top management, starting with the CEO, Flavio Cattaneo.
